Volunteering - Next Steps

Thank you for your registering interest in volunteering with us, we will be in touch when your application has been reviewed and approved with our volunteer onboarding information.

In the meantime, please have a look through the information below that will talk you through everything you need to know prior to starting to volunteer with us.

Volunteering policies

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with our volunteer policies as they contain information that is important to know before supporting a session.

Our volunteer role profiles will help give you a flavour of the tasks our volunteers carry out and help you see how you may wish to support.

Our volunteer handbook will provide you an introduction to our charity, our programmes and the policies that are in place to support our volunteers.

Our volunteer agreement outlines the expectations of our volunteers and what you can expect in return from Wheels for All.

Our volunteer code of conduct defines the behaviours and values we expect of our volunteers when supporting Wheels for All to ensure a high standard of experience for all participants, carers, and fellow volunteers.

Our Wheels for All clothing policy outlines the provision of volunteer clothing, the expectations for its use, and guidelines for its care and replenishment.

Our Expenses policy details the out-of-pocket expenses volunteers can claim for and the process to follow.

Arrange a visit

Please use our location finder to highlight your local hub you wish to support. Through the hub page you will be able to find all the details for our regional teams who deliver the sessions. Please liaise with them to arrange a visit to the hub so you can see what we do first hand, what’s involved and meet our current staff, volunteers and participants.

What to bring with you

Our hubs are based in a variety of settings ranging from athletics tracks to country parks and therefore each one has slightly different provisions available.

At most of our hubs Tea and coffee will be available on site (either made on site by the team or some hubs there is an external café on site where refreshments can be purchased) but please bring your own lunch and any further refreshments that may be required.

Our sessions are predominately outside, with varying levels of shelter so please bring clothes appropriate to the weather conditions. There will be some limited waterproof clothing available on site for new volunteers and after attending 3 sessions we will liaise with you about ordering your volunteer clothing.

What can you expect to get involved with at our sessions?

Helping at a Wheels for All session can include activities such as:

  • Moving our cycles from storage ready for use
  • Checking our cycles are safe to use for the upcoming session
  • Meeting and greeting participants
  • Signing in our participants to the session
  • Helping to fit participants and their carers with helmets
  • Providing encouragement to participants and monitoring the track
  • Moving our cycles back into storage

Volunteer induction

We want to ensure all our volunteers have the skills and knowledge to feel comfortable in their volunteer role helping to deliver safe inclusive cycling sessions, to help with this:

We have created a volunteer induction resource to help you get to know our cycles, participants, and best practices for session delivery (plus much more!) to allow you to hit the ground running at your first session.

Our staff members and current volunteers will be on hand to support you as you start to get more involved with volunteering with us.
