Accessible Cycling Sessions Come to Preston This Autumn

Posted:

Wheels for All has partnered with Preston City Council to launch a series of accessible cycling sessions at parks and venues across the city.
The project is part of the Accessible Active Travel initiative, aimed at supporting more people to enjoy the freedom, fun, and health benefits of cycling no matter their ability.

At each session, Wheels for All will provide a wide range of adapted cycles to suit all needs, from people with physical disabilities and degenerative conditions, to those experiencing social isolation. The charity’s friendly and trained staff will be on hand to help participants find the right cycle, get comfortable, and guide them on a short, safe, and enjoyable route.

The following sessions are planned:
• Wednesday 10 September – Haslam Park (children’s play area near park entrance)
• Wednesday 24 September – Brockholes Nature Reserve (in front of Playground)
• Wednesday 8 October – Avenham Park (West Cliffe entrance)
• Wednesday 22 October – Ashton Park (Let’s Grow Preston walled garden)

Each day will feature four sessions starting at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 1:30pm, with 10 places available per hour.

Stuart Lockton, Inclusive Cycling Coordinator for Wheels for All Kendal, said: “These sessions are all about making cycling possible for everyone. We’ll have a range of adapted cycles available, so no matter what barriers people might face, there’ll be an option to help them experience the joy of inclusive cycling. We want people to feel confident, supported, and part of a welcoming community.”

Jennifer Hanley from Preston City Council added: “We’re delighted to be working with Wheels for All on this project. Preston is full of fantastic cycling spaces, and these accessible sessions mean more residents can enjoy them while getting active in a way that suits them. It’s a great step forward in making active travel more inclusive across the city.”
