Meet Andy and Neil!

Posted:

This summer, Andy from Doncaster is setting off on an extraordinary challenge – cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats – all in support of Wheels for All and inspired by someone very close to his heart.

He’s riding for his brother-in-law Neil, who also lives in Doncaster and shares Andy’s passion for cycling. Neil has Down’s Syndrome and, while he used to ride in his younger years, the challenges of road awareness and riding a two-wheeled bike safely have made it difficult for him to continue. That’s where Wheels for All comes in.

Our inclusive cycling sessions give people of all abilities the chance to experience the freedom, joy, and wellbeing benefits of cycling – and Andy wants to ensure others like Neil can keep pedalling.

“I’d love to raise enough money to help Wheels for All purchase at least one adapted cycle,” Andy says. “Without them, people like Neil wouldn’t have the opportunity to enjoy cycling again.”

Andy is taking part in the event starting on 9th August, aiming to complete the journey over 14 days. Training is well underway, and Andy’s determination is clear.

He first came across Wheels for All at the National Cycling Show at the NEC in 2024, where he met some of our team: “They were so enthusiastic and helpful – it really confirmed that this was the right charity to support.”

There are two big reasons Andy is riding for Wheels for All. “First and foremost, it’s for Neil,” he explains. “His enthusiasm for cycling is still there – we just need a way to support him safely. And second, Wheels for All gives people of all abilities the chance to enjoy cycling again. That’s something really special.”
