Meet Austin!

Posted:

This week we were thrilled to hear from Austin, a young mountain biker who has been taking on an incredible challenge this May to help more disabled people experience the freedom and joy of cycling.

Austin will ride an amazing 500km on his mountain bike throughout the month - the equivalent distance from Chichester to the Scottish border, and a whopping 16km a day - all in aid of Wheels for All.

Nearly two years ago, Austin sat on a mountain bike for the very first time and quickly discovered a love for the sport that has only continued to grow.
Since then, he has embraced every aspect of mountain biking, from tackling trails and mastering jumps to building friendships within the cycling community. Now, he wants to use that passion to help others discover the same sense of excitement and belonging.

Speaking about why he chose to take on the challenge, Austin said:
“I wanted to choose a charity that would help people to feel how I feel when I cycle.”

Austin’s mum, Johanna, explained that the idea for the fundraiser was inspired by Austin’s brother, who previously completed a cold water dip every day throughout January and February 2024 for charity. Wanting Austin to create a challenge connected to something he genuinely loved, the family began thinking about how his love for mountain biking could make a difference for others.

That passion has now turned into an inspiring fundraising effort that will help Wheels for All continue providing inclusive cycling opportunities for disabled people and those living with long-term health conditions across the country through adapted cycles, training, support and accessible cycling sessions.
Austin’s challenge highlights one of the main reasons that Wheels for All does what we do – that the power of cycling changes lives, builds confidence and creates lasting connections, something he hopes many more people will now have the chance to experience.

Everyone at Wheels for All would like to say a huge thank you to Austin for his incredible support and determination throughout this challenge.
