This April, Wheels for All supporter Julia will be taking on the Manchester Marathon, a huge personal milestone and her first ever marathon after nearly 10 years of running.
With plenty of races already under her belt, Julia knew that this challenge had to mean something more. She wanted to use every mile to support a charity that felt deeply personal to her and we are so lucky she chose Wheels for All!
“I’ve chosen to support Wheels for All because I’ve seen first-hand the incredible impact their sessions can have,” says Julia. “They create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience the freedom and joy of cycling, using specially adapted bikes so that everyone is included.”
That impact became especially real when one of Julia’s cousins, who is autistic, attended a Wheels for All session. At the start, no one was sure she would be able to ride a cycle at all. Thanks to the patience, encouragement and support of Wheels for All’s volunteers, she not only managed to ride independently but she also spoke, something that is very rare for her.
“In one session, Wheels for All helped her achieve two incredibly special things: riding a bike and finding her voice. It was a moment our family will never forget.”
Julia will be running the Manchester Marathon alongside fellow members of Birkenhead Park Running Club, including another marathon first-timer, and she plans to stand out on the course in her trademark bold colours, a fitting nod to the vibrant branding here at Wheels for All.
At our Birkenhead Park hub, Wheels for All offers a range of specially adapted bikes, handcycles and trikes, ensuring that everyone — regardless of physical or learning ability — has the chance to get active, have fun and build confidence through cycling.
Every donation raised through Julia’s marathon helps keep these sessions running and allows more life-changing moments like this to happen.
We’re incredibly grateful to Julia for choosing to support Wheels for All and wish her the very best of luck as she takes on this amazing challenge.
