Meet Owen!

Posted:

Owen and his parents have been attending Wheels for All sessions in Salford for several years. Despite travelling a considerable distance to get there, they make the journey because of the impact these sessions have had on Owen’s life.

From the very beginning, our team at Salford Wheels for All have been a key part of Owen’s journey. They are always encouraging, supportive, and dedicated to ensuring that people of all abilities feel welcome and empowered. The athletic track provides the perfect space for participants to build confidence and develop their cycling skills at their own pace.

When Owen first started attending, he was unable to ride independently and could only sit on a cycle. However, through consistent encouragement and practice, he has made remarkable progress. Owen has learned to steer, balance, and now confidently rides independently, completing multiple laps of the track. This progress is a testament to his determination and the inclusive, nurturing environment provided by Wheels for All.

The benefits of these sessions extend beyond cycling. For Owen, the independence and freedom he experiences while riding have been life-changing.

Speaking to his dad, Malcolm, told us “Owen’s exercise tolerance, fitness, and posture have all greatly improved. As a non-verbal man with Autism, Owen also finds immense joy in the social aspects of the sessions. He is warmly welcomed and included, allowing him to connect with others in a way that is meaningful to him. And, above all, Owen has fun.”

“We wish we could attend more often,” Owen’s mum, Elinor, added. “We cannot thank and recommend Wheels for All enough.”

Owen’s story is just one of many that highlight the power of inclusive cycling. Wheels for All is proud to create spaces where everyone can thrive, no matter their ability.
