Pedal Away joins the 2024 Lights Up Ride in Manchester!

Posted:

Last weekend, Wheels for All had the pleasure of joining the incredible Lights Up Ride in Manchester, an evening event dedicated to inspiring women to cycle through the winter months. Participants and team members from our Pedal Away Trafford program took part in this fantastic event, which started at Manchester Metropolitan University and finished at Victoria Baths for food, drinks, and celebration.

Organised by Rides for Women Manchester, the Lights Up Ride was created to bring awareness to a prominent issue in the cycling community: the noticeable drop in the number of female cyclists during the winter season. By hosting an inclusive, fun, and supportive evening ride, Rides for Women Manchester is encouraging women to keep cycling and feel confident on the roads, no matter the season.

Our Pedal Away Trafford group not only completed the planned route but went above and beyond, clocking a total of 30 miles by the end of the night. It was a remarkable achievement and a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our team and participants.

At Wheels for All, we’re passionate about creating inclusive cycling experiences for everyone, and we’re especially committed to supporting women’s participation in the sport. Events like the Lights Up Ride align with our values, helping break down barriers and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the joy and freedom that cycling brings.

Faith, one of our regular Pedal Away participants said echoed this sentiment saying “It was a wonderful event, it felt very empowering to be amongst such wonderful women who had organised the event so well, they kept us safe by leading us around the streets of Manchester, and overall just made it a very enjoyable event. Great to be part of it!”

We want to extend a huge thank you to Rides for Women Manchester and Lizzie Gough of Trafford Council for organising such a meaningful and enjoyable event. It was an honour for Wheels for All to participate, and we’re excited to continue working alongside organisations that share our passion for creating inclusive cycling opportunities.
