We're recruiting a new Trustee!

As a Trustee, you will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise to provide the robust and vibrant governance that is needed to ensure we remain focused on our strategic objectives, operate effectively and efficiently, and achieve our ambitions to grow.

At this time we would particularly welcome applications from people with experience and expertise in charitable fundraising to strengthen the board in this area.

A record of successful achievement of working at a strategic level, with the ability to interact effectively with the Board, Chief Executive, and senior staff, challenge constructively, and influence a wide range of stakeholders are all must have qualities.

We anticipate that the role will require attendance at 8 evening Board meetings a year (either in person in Warrington, or via teams meeting) and some additional hours per month on special projects in line with your skills.

The role of a Trustee is not remunerated; however expenses will be reimbursed. Induction and training will also be provided.

Role responsibilities

Main responsibilities

• To ensure that Cycling Projects and its representatives function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with the organisation’s governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
• To uphold the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to the public confidence in the charity.
• To take appropriate professional advice in all matters where there may be material risk to Wheels for All, or where the Trustees may be in breach of their duties. This course of action will ensure the obligation to exercise their duty of care.
• To determine the overall direction and development of Wheels for All through good governance and clear strategic planning.
• To avoid any personal conflict of interest.
• The Trustees shall ensure responsibilities towards the welfare and safety of its members and people (including but not limited to employees, participants and volunteers) are factored into their decisions and shall appoint one of the Trustees to lead in this area.
• The Trustees shall ensure that they factor the impact on stakeholders, wider society and the environment into their decisions and in to the actions implemented by Wheels for All.

Main duties

• To ensure that Wheels for All complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to organisational activities contained therein.
• To act in the best interests of Wheels for All, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
• To promote and develop Wheels for All in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society.
• To maintain sound financial management of Wheels for All’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the organisation’s objects, and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
• To interview, appoint and monitor the work and activities of the senior paid staff.
• To ensure the effective and efficient administration of Wheels for All and its resources, striving for the best practice in good governance.
• To act as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds, if appropriate.
• To maintain absolute confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of the trustee’s responsibilities to Cycling Projects.

• An ability to work as part of a team and take a hands-on approach to achieving objectives.
• Commitment to diversity and the promotion of equal opportunities.
• Willingness and ability to devote appropriate time to Board duties.
• Ability to think strategically and differentiate between strategy and operations.
• An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a Wheels for All Trustee.
• Ability to evaluate and interpret details and complex information.
• Ability and willingness to challenge fellow trustees and senior management constructively

A successful candidate will be expected to:

• Complete a DBS check
• Make aHMRC fit and proper persons declaration
• Complete a Charity Commission Declaration of Eligibility form
• Provide 2 referees prior to appointment.
