Wheels for All launches new Volunteer Strategy!

Posted:

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our organisations’ Volunteer Strategy, this is a key milestone in our commitment to ensuring whether you give your time to support us at our sessions, helping at events or leading the organisation as a trustee, you have the best possible experience doing so.

Our aim is that our volunteers feel part of a volunteering family, empowered to carry out your role safely, proud to make a difference to people’s lives in their community and appreciated for the incredible support you provide!

Our Volunteers bring our cycling activities to life, they make sure that everyone feels included, they inspire others, they increase participants’ confidence, they maintain cycles, and they make sure that cycling is truly accessible to everyone. This strategy aims to enhance our volunteer experience by delivering key projects across four focus areas. which will see us:

  • Recruit more volunteers to support our charities’ growth and to be more reflective of society and the communities we serve.
  • Train our volunteers to carry out their role safely and to provide high quality experience to participants.
  • Retain volunteers through creating an engaging environment. One where they can see the difference they make and that they are proud to be a part of.
  • Recognise and ensure our volunteers feel appreciated for the incredible support they give us.

The plan outlines key projects within each area that details the tangible differences that our volunteers will see implemented by 2028. At the bottom of this article, you can either view the strategy in full or as individual sections.

We have been able to create a plan informed by the areas you would like to see improvements, based on your responses to our recent survey and ongoing feedback to our regional teams. Thank you for helping to shape the direction of the plan and helping us focus on the areas that will bring about the most impactful changes to you when volunteering with us.

Moving forward our annual survey will be a key measure for us to monitor the success of the strategy. Each year once the survey results have been analysed, we will provide an update on our progress.

Jayne Pritchard, who volunteers at our Wheels for All hub in Woking, said: “Inclusivity is the reason that we enjoy being volunteers at Wheels for All Woking. Being able to help cyclists with differing needs enjoy the benefits that cycling provides to both physical and mental health, in a safe environment, is very rewarding. Seeing the delight on participants’ faces and the weekly improvements is very satisfying”

Our Chief Executive Officer, Ian Tierney said, “At the heart of our mission is making a difference to the lives of those who need it most. Our new volunteer strategy is about ensuring we have a community of volunteers that sustainably grows alongside our ever-expanding delivery, with diverse skills and experience to provide the individual support our participants require. Through engaging our volunteers in meaningful roles, creating opportunities for personal growth, highlighting their impact on our mission and showing appreciation for their invaluable help, we are building a strong foundation to support our service users long into the future.”
