Bike Buddy - Liverpool & Sefton Mencap

Bike Buddy scheme off to a flying start with Liverpool & Sefton Mencap members attending a try out at Croxteth Country Park and Mencap House in Sefton.

Our Bike Buddy project was developed to specifically support the growing need for independent travel during the pandemic. Offering an alternative and safer way to get from home to the places people wanted to get to was the focus for implementing this new Bike Buddy initiative.

Meeting on Zoom with the members from Liverpool & Sefton Mencap enabled us to introduce the idea of active travel, determine need and design initial taster days to assess confidence, ability and willingness to become an independent rider.

Active Travel is an important element of staying safe during the pandemic and the Bike Buddy initiative sets out to match a rider to a suitable bike then help plan A to B journeys to get to places that make a difference: a friend’s house, the gym, the supermarket, local park, Mencap.

Cycling Projects has Bike Buddy launching in Greater Manchester and from our brand new hub at Springfield Park with Alder Hey Hospital.
