A new scheme creating opportunities for day care centre attendees to enjoy inclusive cycling activities is being launched in Goole.
The ‘Wheels for All’ project helps participants improve physical wellbeing, build confidence, and enjoy social interaction through cycling and will provide adults attending Pastures Day Services, Goole, with access to specially adapted cycles.
The initiative, created in partnership between Wheels for All, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Goole Town Council, aims to provide accessible, safe, and enjoyable cycling sessions for people of all abilities, giving them the opportunity to enjoy new social opportunities.
The project has been made possible thanks to a £4,000 donation from Siemens Mobility. Funding from Siemens Mobility has enabled the partnership to enhance access to adapted cycles and deliver inclusive opportunities tailored to the needs of participants.
The cycles are adapted in many ways to fit a wide range of disabilities and movement limitations. Adapted cycles can take the form of tandems, trikes, recumbent trikes, wheelchair cycles and handcycles meaning that there is sure to be a cycle available no matter what a participants ability level is.
Wheels for All, the UK’s leading inclusive cycling charity, will work alongside East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Goole Town Council to provide regular sessions that ensure everyone has the opportunity to experience the joy and freedom of cycling, regardless of age or ability.
The new cycling opportunities are expected to begin during the summer of 2026, with sessions designed specifically to support day care centre attendees in a welcoming and supportive environment.
To mark the launch of the project, representatives from Wheels for All, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Goole Town Council and Siemens Mobility came together on Thursday, 9 July for a cheque presentation event at Pastures Day Services in Goole. The event celebrated the partnership and the investment that has made the new inclusive cycling opportunities possible, while giving attendees the chance to learn more about the positive impact the project will have for local people accessing day services.
Councillor Jonathan Owen, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Care at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This scheme will help more people enjoy the benefits of being active, regardless of age, disability or support needs. By working with our partners and our Active Communities team, we’re creating opportunities for people to build confidence, improve wellbeing and take part in community activities in an inclusive and supportive environment.”
Yvonne Stead, Regional Manager for Greater Manchester and Yorkshire at Wheels for All, added: ‘’We are delighted to be working alongside East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Goole Town Council and Siemens Mobility to bring inclusive cycling opportunities to people attending Pastures Day Services. Through our fleet of adapted cycles, we can ensure that more people experience the freedom, independence and joy that cycling can bring. We look forward to welcoming participants to their first sessions later this summer and seeing the positive impact this project will have within the local community.”
Aglaja Schneider, Joint CEO and Managing Director of Rolling Stock and Customer Services, Siemens Mobility UK&I, said: ” We’re really proud to support the Wheels for All project in Goole, providing inclusive and accessible opportunities for people of all abilities at Pastures Day Services. While our business continues to invest in the future of rail manufacturing in Goole, it is equally important that we invest in the communities that help us thrive. We can’t wait to see the difference this project makes.”
