Volunteers Week 2020

A message from our National Volunteer Coordinator – Tom Glynn

Posted:

Last week we celebrated National Volunteers Week in a slightly different way than normal. During normal circumstances, we would have been hosting volunteer celebration lunches, treating volunteers to afternoon tea, presenting certificates and promoting our opportunities at different events across England and Wales. But this year it has been important to say thank you and celebrate using a mix of technology and traditional appreciation activities.

Volunteering within Cycling Projects has looked very differently recently, the volunteering passion to help others hasn’t stopped, it’s been adapted to suit the these changing times. Volunteers have been involved in fixing bikes ready to loan out to NHS staff members, transporting bikes to people in need, campaigning locally for our cause, befriending each other through isolating times and taking on virtual and technological volunteering duties to support the charity.

We know that helping others through providing bikes or signposting not only supports the individual we’re serving, or the national cause, but it provides a sense of belonging and makes our volunteers happier and healthier, during these tough few weeks in lockdown.

We’re really proud of our volunteers across the country, who have shown compassion and care for each other and their local community during this very difficult time. Which is why we feel so lucky to have volunteers like them at Cycling Projects.
