Last week we were thrilled to visit our new Hexham Hub to celebrate six successful weeks of inclusive cycling sessions in the area. During the visit, the team were delighted to watch a session in full swing, meet some of the brilliant participants, and present certificates of achievement to those who have taken part since the Hub opened.
The Hexham Hub was launched as a six-week pilot to gauge local interest in inclusive cycling and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Participants and carers have shared how the sessions have supported both physical wellbeing and confidence, helping more people enjoy the freedom of cycling in a safe and welcoming environment.
While in Hexham, Wheels for All staff also met with representatives from Northumberland County Council and other local cycling initiatives to discuss the impact the pilot has already had on disabled people in the community. The group also explored opportunities to continue and grow inclusive cycling provision in the North East into the new year.
Chris Watts, Head of Inclusive Cycling at Wheels for All, said:
“The response to the Hexham pilot has been fantastic. It’s been wonderful to see how quickly the sessions have become part of the local community, with participants telling us how much cycling has boosted their confidence, fitness and social connections. We’re now using the feedback and data gathered to secure future funding so that Hexham can become a permanent Wheels for All Hub, providing inclusive cycling opportunities for years to come.”
Wheels for All would like to thank Northumberland County Council and Places Leisure for their invaluable support in helping bring inclusive cycling to Hexham and for their continued collaboration in making cycling accessible for everyone.
