After winning the Inclusive Sport Award in 2020, we are thrilled that Wheels for All Woking has received the award again in the Sport Woking Awards 2022, organised by Woking Borough Council.
The team were credited for “inspiring individuals with their incredible expertise and positive ‘can do’ attitude while also treating participants with the utmost care.” They won a fantastic annual gym membership from Freedom Leisure, one of the award sponsors.
The Sport Woking Awards recognise outstanding physical performance while also celebrating those involved in encouraging or supporting participation in sport throughout the year.
Winning this award is a testament to the hard work of the Wheels for All Woking staff and volunteers who are dedicated to our mission of making cycling accessible to people of all abilities.
Wheels for All Woking support participants of all ages, from children as young as three to adults in their 90s. As with our other Wheels for All centres, Wheels for All Woking offers a safe space for participants to cycle in a traffic-free environment. There are a range of adapted cycles available to use, including tricycles and hand cycles. Families and carers are welcome to come along and support participants or give it a go themselves!
The team is proud to be acknowledged for its efforts in breaking down barriers and providing opportunities for disabled people and those with differing needs to participate in sport and physical activity. We believe that cycling can have
such a positive impact on not just the physical health and well-being of our participants, but also their mental health, social skills and overall quality of life.
Jayne Pritchard, a volunteer with Wheels for All Woking, said: “Inclusivity is the reason that we enjoy being volunteers at Wheels for All Woking. Being able to help cyclists with differing needs enjoy the benefits that cycling provides to both physical and mental health, in a safe environment, is very rewarding. Seeing the delight on participants’ faces and the weekly improvements is very satisfying, therefore we are delighted to receive recognition and to have won the Inclusive Sport Award again.”
Cllr Ellen Nicholson, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Living Well, said: “I’m so impressed by the wealth of sporting talent within our borough, and by the dedication of those who help others to realise the benefits of physical activity.
“Whether it’s at a recreational, grass roots or elite level, sport brings people together, creates connections, builds confidence, develops skills and has such a positive impact on our health and wellbeing. The Sport Woking Awards are a fabulous showcase of all that’s on offer in our borough and I hope they inspire more residents to get involved locally.”
This award serves as a great reminder of the difference we can make in communities across the UK. The Wheels for All Woking team are an inspiration to many and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue to support people in the Woking area through cycling.
Thank you to Freedom Leisure for sponsoring this award and for our brilliant prize, and a massive thank you to our participants and supporters, we couldn’t do what we do without you.
