Spotlight on: Wheels for All Tendring

Posted:

Since opening in 2022 our Wheels for All Hub in Tendring has proved immensely popular and we’re pleased to say it is reopen again for the 2024 season with an additional location.
Our first Hub is located at Shorefields School and is held on a Wednesday afternoon. The Hub is a chance for people to come down and participate in inclusive cycling sessions, regardless of disability or additional needs. The sessions take advantage of taking place in a playground setting surrounded by greenery, meaning that participants are able to enjoy being outdoors whilst also benefitting from having steady ground underneath them as they enjoy the wide range of adapted cycles.
“It was great to welcome back so many of our participants, there were lots of smiles and laughter as everyone got back into the swing of cycling. We had lots of our regulars join us again, it was clear they had missed the coming to the sessions, just as much as we had missed supporting them.” Hannah, our Delivery Co-Ordinator told us.
In addition to the Shorefields Hub we are thrilled to announce that a brand-new location has opened for 2024 in Sailship!
Sailship is a work and life skills training centre for people living with a learning disability. It is set amongst allotments, garden areas, and woodlands with a short, peaceful pathway that is used for walking or cycling using our adapted cycles. We have sessions running at Sailship on Thursday mornings.
The addition of Sailship means there is a quiet, peaceful, accessible pathway for the Tendring Hub to use. It’s been great to finally have some dry weather so we can get out on our 2 Tomcats we have there, our participants along with our WfA staff members managed the Golden mile – 6 laps of the track cycling alongside Daffodils.
Wheels for All is also pleased to welcome a new Delivery Co-Ordinator to the Tendring Hubs. Denise joins us with a background in social care and is now taking on a new challenge of helping to deliver inclusive cycling to the people of Essex. Welcome, Denise!
It’s all going on in Tendring and we’re so excited be back for the 2024 cycling season!
